Healing Within
Internal orientation verses external as it relates to your health

Mark M. Diede - April 07, 2009

Most individuals are looking on the outside, searching for someone to tell them what they need to do, what they need to eat, how they need to exercise, etc. etc.

Very few people are connected to themselves enough to know what is right for them in any given situation.

The outside world can reflect back what is happening and can be very useful to become aware of what one is not normally aware of or what one is in denial about. It can be especially helpful when you become aware of what you are attracted towards and what disgust you the most. This can be very helpful in becoming aware of where your energy is at, especially the energy that is stuck or blocked.

Often when the body is in pain or sick inner listening can be helpful. Generally when this happens your body is trying to get your attention and if you can develop your skills your body can tell you what it needs to get better.

Many individuals will think that some how their body is trying to sabotage them in some way when it is in pain or ill, but generally this could not be further from the truth. Illness and pain are an indication that something is out of balance.

Most of the answers you are looking for are in the last place you would look at. They are within you, especially in the areas that are in distress or in pain.

One suggestion I have is to let your full awareness, mind or consciousness enter into the area that is in distress, instead of trying to mask or cover up your symptoms. Become aware of all the ways you mask or cover up your symptoms. Recognize your patterns and habits and decide if you want to continue doing that or not.

Keep listening to what your body wants to help restore balance and then do what it says. See what happens and be aware of the results. Doing this once does not necessarily restore balance completely but keep doing it over and over and see what happens.

Hopefully as you do this it will help you develop your skills of listening to your body.

I am not against outside help from other people but I do feel it is important to connect and have some dialog with your body about whom or what it needs. Once you become aware of how your body communicates with you, you can see if it wants rest, body work, movement, exercise, food, nutrition, acupuncture, energetic work, emotional work and with whom it may need help from.

The point is not to cover up or get rid of the pain but to understand it completely and do what it says to recover.

Each individual needs to decide for themselves if drugs or surgery are needed. These do not necessarily restore balance but may be necessary if the imbalance has become so severe that there is some type of pathology.

Hopefully by developing your skills at inner listening you can notice small imbalances long before they develop into more serious problems.

Like a fire, it is a lot easier to put out a camp fire than it is to put out 400,000 acres. The time and energy and the costs are much less the sooner it is caught.

If you let your health and your body deteriate to far it is like trying to put out a forest fire with a squirt gun.
